Patron Interlibrary Loan Request

Looking for an item that isn’t in our catalog? Now you can search over 100 Indiana library catalogs and request Interlibrary Loan (ILL) items yourself and we will let you know when they arrive at the Library.

How ILL works

Items that can be borrowed include:

  • Books
  • DVDs
  • Audiobooks

Items that cannot be borrowed include:

  • Materials released in the last 6 months. Instead, consider making a Request for Purchase — just ask a librarian.
  • Titles that are currently owned by Brown County Public Library, but are not currently on the shelves. For titles in our collection, please place a hold instead.
  • Most magazines

Borrowing Terms

  • Allow a minimum of two weeks for requested materials to arrive at the Brown County Public Library.
  • The length of borrowing time is pre-determined by the lending library. Picking up materials promptly gives you more time to enjoy them.
  • Renewals are available at the discretion of the lending library and must be requested a minimum of three days before the item is due. To request an ILL renewal, please call 812.988.2850 or visit the Library.
  • Customers will be charged for items they damage or lose as assessed by the lending library.

Search Tips

  • Broad searches can take several seconds to complete. Have as much information about the title as possible including:
    • Books and Audiobooks: Author and title
    • DVD: title and actor(s)
    • Year published
  • Use the Advanced Search feature
  • Narrow down your search by selecting a format from the left side bar, ie. book, DVD, etc.
  • Select the item showing the most available copies in your desired format.
  • To check the status of your request, click the “Your Account” link in the upper right corner of the ILL dashboard, then click the “Items from Other Libraries” link.
