November is Family Caregivers Month

Did you know that family members are the main support system for older adults and people with disabilities? Often those caregivers juggle their own jobs and home lives, in addition to caring for another adult. While caretaking can be rewarding, it can also take a toll on our emotions, physical being, and finances. November is National Family Caregivers Month and the Brown County Public Library is celebrating by hosting its first Caregiver Connections: Adult Caretaker Resource Fair on Thursday, November 7.

Our goal is to educate, raise awareness, and provide support resources for our community’s adult caregivers. Featuring presentations by Thrive Alliance; Brown County TRIAD; Voelz, Reed and Mount attorneys at law; A Matter of Balance, and the Library, as well as booths by various organizations that serve those in need of care, this event brings the information and contacts together in one place. We encourage anyone responsible for the care of another adult to take a little time for themselves, and come and learn about the tools available to help make your caretaking journey easier.

Caregiver Connections opens to the public at 9:45 am for browsing, presentations begin at 10:30 am, and the event ends at 1:30 pm. A complete schedule of the day’s events is available on our website. Walk-ins are always welcome, however an RSVP is helpful!

The Brown County Public Library is also partnering with Thrive Alliance to bring a Virtual Dementia Experience to Brown County. Taking roughly 30 minutes and using various sensory altering tools, this experience allows you see, feel, and hear what it is like to live with dementia. This is an experience — eye opening, disturbing, and guaranteed to give you a different perspective on dementia. There will be two sessions available: Wednesday, November 13 and Thursday, December 5, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Each session is limited to 12 participants and registration is required. Registration for the November session is open now.

For additional information about these events contact Tess Kean at 812.988.5972, or email programs@browncountylibrary.info.
