A Novel Bunch News!

A Novel Bunch book club is reading Jim Fergus’ One Thousand White Women on March 20th, 2:00-3:30.  An historical novel transporting readers to another time and place, namely the western prairies, in 1875.  In the 1850’s, a peace conference was held in Fort Laramie and a prominent North Cheyenne chief requested of the U.S. Army, a gift of one thousand white women as brides for his warriors.  The chief thought by assimilating into the white man’s culture, he would be ensuring peace between the two cultures.  Jim Fergus asks What If?  and creates a journal of May Dodd, a courageous, inspiring main character.  We feel her excitement, fear, sorrow and exultation as she and other women friends embark upon the adventure of their lifetime !   Jim Fergus has so vividly depicted the American West that it is as if these diaries are a capsule in time.
