eBooks Frequently Asked Questions
On March 1st the Brown County Public Library will become a member of the new Indiana Digital Library. This is a shared collection of digital titles from nearly 200 Indiana public libraries and means that you will have access to even more downloadable titles with shorter wait times on holds.
How do I log into my account?
If you are already a digital reader, you can use the same links as before and will be automatically redirected to the new Indiana Digital Library. You will be asked to log back into your account — just use your library card number (without spaces) and PIN 1234. You will also be given the chance to save your reading history and tags.
What apps should I be using?
Patrons can download ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and video with the following apps:
If you are reading on an iPad, iPhone, Android device or Kindle Fire the best way to read eBooks is with the free Libby by OverDrive app. If you are already an OverDrive user you can easily switch to using the Libby app without losing your current holds or checkouts. Just download the Libby app and log in with your library card number and PIN.
The OverDrive app will no longer be supported and has been replaced with the Libby app. If you already have the OverDrive app installed on your tablet or e-reader you can continue to use it, but we highly recommend switching to the Libby app for a better reading experience.
Libby will allow you to read across devices, download materials for offline access, listen in your car or send your books to a Kindle device.
Readers using an Amazon Kindle devices other than Kindle Fire will continue streaming ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines using their browser from www.Libbyapp.com or from the Library’s Libby website link.
Use your library card to create your own hoopla account. Your BCPL library card entitles you to 6 hoopla downloads per month.
hoopla is a pay-per-circulation service. To help manage costs, the Library has a daily budget cap on hoopla downloads. This means that once the cumulative daily checkout limit has been reached all checkouts are paused, even if you have checkouts remaining on your account. The daily budget resets at midnight, so if you receive an error message stating the limit has been reached, we suggest saving the titles to your favorites and downloading them the next day.
