Ukulele OWLS: Beginning Ukulele for Older, Wiser Learners
The Ukulele OWLS is a free 10-week ukulele workshop for adults age 65 and older, brought to you by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission in partnership with the Family and Social Services Administration.
Instructor Kristin Thompson, local musician and owner of Weed Patch Music Company, has created a curriculum and practice materials especially for older adults, featuring large print music and songs we all know and love.
Participants will learn:
- Ukulele basics, including chords, strumming patterns and styles of playing
- Collaborative playing (jamming) with a goal of learning to confidently play together.
- 8 ukulele songs and be ready to show off their new skills at a performance and reception at the Library for family and friends.
Instrument kits, including concert sized ukuleles, tuners, and lesson books, will be provided by the Library for the duration of the workshop.
- Instruments will be distributed at the first session
- Instrument kits will be checked out to the participant’s library card. If you don’t have a card, just stop by the Brown County Public Library with a photo ID and proof of Brown County residency or property ownership and a card can be issued that day.
Participation Requirements
- Participants must be age 65 or older.
- Participants should commit to attending as many of the sessions as possible.
- Class size is limited to 10 students.
