Library announces Brown County READS — a community-wide reading experience

The Brown County Public Library is hosting a community read during the month of August. With the goal of promoting an appreciation of reading and encouraging conversations across the  community, the title selected for this year’s read will be “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” by Indiana-born author Kurt Vonnegut. Known for his dark sense of humor and satirical writing, Vonnegut’s writing career spanned over 50 years, and tackled difficult topics like war, politics, religion and class inequality.

Copies of “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” are available for checkout at both Library branches beginning August 1st. Participants will have the month of August to read the book and then join us at the Library at 6 pm on August 31st for a group discussion led by Chris Lafave, curator of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library in Indianapolis. In addition to leading the book discussion, Mr. Lafave will talk about Vonnegut’s life and work.

Additionally from August 1st to 31st, the Brown County Public Library will be hosting an exhibit containing some of the author’s artifacts from the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. Visitors can look forward to seeing a replica of Vonnegut’s desk, complete with various correspondence (including rejection letters), as well as other displays related to the author.

All Brown County readers are invited to join in the discussion or come and learn more about one of the state’s most celebrated authors, Kurt Vonnegut. Everyone is welcome, but RSVPs are requested.
