If puzzles are your thing, the library has some options for you.
Jigsaw Puzzles: Last winter we began putting out jigsaw puzzles on a table near the front entrance. We thought people might enjoy helping to put them together. It became so popular that we’re still doing it almost a year later. It turns out that many of our patrons can’t do them at home (usually because they have cats,) so they like to be able to come in and contribute to whatever puzzle is currently out.
We have always had jigsaw puzzles available to borrow or make a donation for in our Book Nook room. Now we keep a stash of puzzles that we will eventually put out on the table. When they are completed they may go in the Nook. Some puzzles are lent to us by patrons or staff.
We only do puzzles which fit in the space and are 750 pieces or less. We work them on a bulletin board surface which can be moved easily if the table is needed for some other purpose. The degree of difficulty varies. Sometimes we put out one that takes more than a week to finish. Other times the puzzle is easy enough to be completed that same day. A wide variety of patrons and visitors have sat down (or stood) to contribute. Some of our frequent puzzle people come in several times a week to work on one. Others just stop by once in a while. All ages get involved, sometimes whole families.
Crossword Puzzles Etc.: Many people prefer other kinds of puzzles. Our newspapers provide crosswords, Sudoku, Word Jumbles and other types of puzzles. Of course we ask that you not work it in the actual newspaper, just make copies and then others can all do the same puzzles.
