Storytelling in schools

Did you know we have an outreach program of storytelling in the Brown County Schools? Every school year, our Children’s Librarians, Emmy Champion and Martha Sechler, travel to each classroom in Brown County Schools, from pre-school through 6th grades, two-three times per year.
The two share many of the stories, and sometimes songs, that are part of our world’s rich body of children’s literature. Because today’s children aren’t often exposed to the oral tradition of storytelling, it’s an experience that many find uniquely enjoyable. It doesn’t take long before children recognize the ‘story ladies,’ sometimes referring to one or the other as the “that lady who has books in her head!”
